About vegetarianism

It goes without saying that in TEN-DOU it is inevitable to get rid of  evil mind in order to
build up a peaceful nature and faithful character. But it is not easy to recover essentials
(soul) of mercy, sympathy, perfect virtue and philanthropy. Theory is useless without
                  practice.

Although there is no regulation about foods, but it is important for the people who is
training himself in TEN-DOU to live on vegetables. It might be an inevitable problem to be
solved and the condition to be cleared especially for the people who keep it a rule to
wash both body and mind so as to become ripe and mild day by day.

Recently first-class dietitian or a part of medical scientist has been emphasizing the
necessity of perfect exercise of the vegetarianism, nevertheless we are going to tell about
it from the viewpoint of training in TEN-DOU.

In a word, the vegetarianism in TEN-DOU is never to eat any neither fish nor meat and
keep away from any kinds of liquor, tobacco and drug. People who are training in
TEN-DOU never take SAN-EN GO-KUN that is, three eENf and five eKUNf. Three EN are
generic name of every kinds of natural beings which are living creatures run around the
ground, living things fly in the sky and fish, shells and fishes or any other animals live in
water. Five KUN are onion, garlic and any other family of lily, which give out strong
                  stimulant odor of any kind.

Natural beings enabled to move are endowed with lives from Heaven. Their instinctive
desire to live is never different from that of human. Their desire to die a natural death is
much the same as well. The humankind is specially endowed with the nature, which must
have mercy, sympathy, perfect virtue and philanthropy in its essential part.

Nobody would be pleasant to see manfs death. MOU-SHI (Mencius) said gIf I saw a man
living, I could not bring myself to see him dying. If I heard the sad voice of an animal being
killed, I could never bring myself to eat its flesh. Therefore a man of virtue should never
enter the kitchenh. A man of common sense would be pleased to be born and sorry to die.

Whoever has heard the sorrowful voice of animals being killed will never eat their flesh.

That is the reason why a man of virtue keeps himself away from the place where the
                  kitchen knives shall be used.

SHA-KYA Buddha regulated five religious precepts which the killing is settled in the first
place, and preached people to keep fish and meat away from their dining tables. The
reason why SHA-KYA preached the precept of killing is that a man of natural virtue should
live based on the perfect virtue. The Chinese letter of efleshf can be understood such that
a man eats a man inside the house. It may just as well a family live in a house eats each
other. Originally animals must have lived as human in some former life. These
reincarnation c the repeat to be born and to die c shall be endless.

To be born as SHI-SHOU (living things except humankind) and to live the most painful life
should be often caused the sin of some killing. A man who took one life of a living thing
must be duty bound to save another one life. However merciful Gods might be, the
accumulated sin and crime of mankind could never be released. A man could not avoid
keeping himself away from the killing whoever would not want to have something ill to do
with the dumb animals. Unless a man take the life any of them and eat their flesh, he will
have nothing to do with them and get rid of their interference.

GYOU-JA (Trainee in TEN-DOU) ought to have such a high and noble conviction as to live
and to enjoy prosperity all together with all of the creative beings always, so that he could
treat them equally, share the pleasure of living and the sorrow of dying with each other
nevertheless they were different living things. Even though they must be different kinds
of living creatures, they have the same soul of RAUM as we have.

Although they might have been born as dumb animals because of the sins they have
committed before, they are originally the same beings as our spiritual brothers.

By the way, living creatures belong to SAN-EN usually turn their backs toward the
heaven, which must be the result of their causality against the heaven. Humankind have
GO-JOU (five virtues) which is the reason why they are called as the highest Primate,
while sad to say, other living things have merely a part of them.

Here we show you a poem made by our Teacher YUMI-NAGA before, in order to admonish
us against killing and to promote vegetarianism such as following.

gI recommend my pupils the vegetarianism.h

Whoever train oneself in the Way, should keep the mouth clean.

See animals to be captured, one fled in terror, another gave a loud neigh in sorrow. At
last when they face their death, after they failed to flee from the hunter, a miserable hell
shall be revealed there. Their eyes are kept open, notwithstanding their entrails were
scooped out and fix their eyes on, nevertheless their heads were broken. As for the fish,
they would swim even if they have their bellies torn. The clubs would struggle even in the
                   boiled water.

Mencius explained already that a man of virtue should keep himself away from the
kitchen. A man who heard the sad voice of an animal being killed shall never bring
himself to eat its flesh. This attitude must be much the same as the merciful behavior
                   showed by Buddha.

Notwithstanding belong to dumb animals, they have just as same soul of RAUM as we
have. I hope my both male and female pupils that you should keep it a rule to practice the
                   vegetarianism at once.

                                                                                                                                                ( Thatfs all)

Our soul endowed from Heaven is originally pure and stainless, which will never agree
with the mixture of such a stained energies. Fish and meat have negative energies, while
vegetables have positive. Physical body is negative, while soulfs nature is positive. The
aim of the training is to absorb as much positive energy as possible into body and
                   exhaust negative energy.

Vegetables contain positive energy, while meats contain negative one. It is important for
DOU-SHIN to accumulate positive energy in his body and get rid of negative energy out
of it. If negative energy would happen to remain in onefs body, his soul might be
threatened. Essential part of onefs soul could never be revealed, until his negative
energy might have exhausted out of the body.

Both SAN-EN and GO-KUN have strong influential power to hurt our five sorts of
energies (GO-KI), which are based upon GO-GYOU and filled inner bodies. Each sort of
energy has been endowed with the original virtue (GO-TOKU) respectively, so that a
default any of GO-KI will cause difficulties of some virtuefs revelation in onefs training.

Every human is endowed both GO-KI and GO-TOKU inherently, but later some desires
and other stimulant negative energies might  influence them to be destroyed. A man who
eats too much meat is apt to change his character comparatively brutal and sly. If a man
compares the natures of some animals with the eye, he will make out evidently that the
heredity of blood must be sincerely terrible.

Although sheep and dogs are both domestic animals, the former is the herbivorous and
the latter is the carnivorous animals. It is the well-known fact that dogs are more
ferocious than sheep. As for wild animals, elephants are herbivorous and tigers are
carnivorous animals. Also, we can find two different type of living things in fishes, one is
the carnivorous other is herbivorous fish. Tigers and wolves are difficult of approach and
used to be horrible beast of prey. Sheep, elephants, deer and other herbivorous animals
are comparatively gentle, rather, they look as if they were used to enjoy their lives. The
difference in the dispositions between the animals, which are used to watch the chance
to catch other animals to eat and the animals, which eat usually the only food given from
the nature, is no less big than that of the heaven from the earth. Generally speaking,
animals are so candid as to betray their true character. So that it might be nonsense to
compare the difference in humansf inclination of diet with the distinction of animalsf
                   disposition to eat.

Besides flesh and fish, we are restrained from taking five sorts of vegetables, which are
onion, garlic, leek, scallion and shallot(*).

(*) These names are listed as examples, so that we had better consider that any
other family of lily which give out strong stimulant odor of any kind might be
                                  involved in these vegetables.

Legend in ancient China has it that about 3,000 years ago when BUN-OU famous for
HAK-KE had not yet held the seat, he was met a tremendous disaster as following c

Once upon a time, out of envy of extremely high virtue of BUN-OU, the empress at that
time had assassinated his eldest son at last, and made five pieces of meat bun which was
made from his dead sonfs flesh and was going to trick him into eating them in order to
incriminate him. She considered that she could punish his disobedience to her command
if he would not eat them, or persecute him with the violation of humanity if he might eat
                  them.

Farsighted BUN-OU could have known beforehand the plot of the empress, he had
prepared five vegetable buns and attended at the reserved seat of invitation with his buns
concealed in his pocket. He had secretly changed the buns and after ate them instead of
the meat buns, which he buried later in the garden behind the palace.

We are told that the five sorts of vegetables shot forth from the place where the five meat
buns had been buried. They are the very GO-KUN. The fact that all of them have specified
stimulant odor never found in another vegetables might be caused the affaires shown
above. The reason why Buddhism have forbidden to eat GO-KUN as their religious
precepts is that they have poisonous characteristics indeed to injure the functions of
                  internal designated organs respectively.

According to the theory emphasized by an ancient Saint, SEI, KI and SHIN are called as
the SAN-POU (three treasures) in physical body of human. Trainer in the Way should ever
neither spoil nor injure both soul and spirit. People should prevent the GO-KI of GO-ZOU
from damage first, before that of the physical SAN-POU. As you know, GO-ZOU is the
general term of the five sorts of internal organs, which are heart, lever, lung, spleen and
                  kidney.

Natural circulation of GO-KI starts from DO (soil). That is, DO raises KIN (metal), KIN raises
SUI (water), SUI raises MOKU (tree), MOKU raises KA (fire) and finally KA raises DO. DO
raises KIN again. Heaven made the number of five raise DO. DO possesses the central
position of any kinds of phenomena so that it comes from the center to the end and the
start at the same time. The center is the foundation of the world. DO belongs to the center
capable of response to all around, so that everything could be harmonized first. One point
of GEN-KAN is DO belongs to the center from where the reversed circulation of GO-KI will
                  start as well.

Normal circulation is positive and reverse one is negative current of KI. There is a basic
concept called KA-TO and RAKU-SHO. KA-TO is the way of inactivity to raise everything
in the natural circulation of GO-GYOU, that is, the way from positive to negative side. On
the other side, RAKU-SHO is the way of active variance, the complicated way where the
circulation of GO-GYOU flows to the contrary from negative to positive side. The change
begins from the center, DO overcomes SUI, SUI overcomes KA, KA overcomes KIN, KIN
overcomes MOKU and MOKU overcomes DO.

In the normal (natural) circulation epositivef precedes enegativef, while in the reverse one
enegativef precedes epositivef. eNegativef is einactivityf, while epositivef is eactivityf.
eInactivityf may well overcome eactivityf. The significance of the reverse circulation is in
the achievement of ending by overcoming, which is the way to recover epositivef using
the power of enegativef in order to return Home.

The essence of soul is based upon a point of the center c numeral five. RAO-TZE called it
ea gate of a dark maref, from where we came and we shall go back to Heaven. The Law of
the circulation both normal and reverse as well makes this point the gate of start-and-end.

The center is the ebelieff (in GO-JOU). If a man lost the belief, other KI shall be so damaged
that the native essences of his soul such Love, Justice, Decorum and Wisdom were
changed to the sympathies of Joy, Anger, Sorrow and Pleasure respectively.

If a man ate GO-KUN his native KI shall be damaged. Therefore if he wants to make his
GO-KI recover their original state, he has to give up to take GO-KUN first so that he could
prevent KI of five inner organs from their being corrupted. If a man might take GO-KUN
who should make his soul the exquisite KI of five inner organs absorb, as the result the
damage would be enormous without fail.

Chinese letter of KUN consists of the letters of egrassf and emilitaryf, so to speak it must be
a grassfs general so that the temper is extremely ferocious. The nature of GO-KUN are
different each other as shown bellow.

Name of KUN   inner organ shall be damaged     GO-GYOU

                  Shallot              Lung                     KIN (metal)

Scallion            Lever                     MOKU (tree)

               Onion,               Kidney                  SUI (water)

Garlic,               Heart                      KA (fire)
                  Leek                  Spleen                   DO (soil)

The trainee in the Way ought to hold the true treasure of physical body always. If his inner
organs might be damaged by GO-KUN, the circulation of GO-GYOU would occur neither
normal nor reverse way so that he could never achieve the effect of SHU-GEN at all. Even
if he should try ZA-ZEN, he could neither make himself reach the stage of ecstasy nor
control his mind, so that he could hardly keep worldly thoughts and desires both back.
That is the reason why GO-KUN are prohibited to eat nevertheless they belong to
                  vegetable.

Besides GO-KUN, liquor and tobacco are prohibited to take because of their stimulation
to GO-ZOU. Liquor, carnal desire, fortune, spirit and smoke are called GO-DOKU (five
poisons) in the world. There are  spirits of GO-GYOU in KI-TEN, qualities of GO-GYOU in
SHOU-TEN and inner organs of GO-GYOU in human, which would be changed to GO-JOU
if one could use them in the right way, otherwise GO-DOKU notwithstanding. If there were
excesses in use of carnal desire, fortune or spirit in onefs mind, they might injure his inner
organs. Above all, such luxury goods as liquor and tobacco (as well as drugs of any
kinds) are strong habit-forming stimuli, which might paralyze onefs native soul. Especially
people who are training in the Way should have to restrain always from taking both liquor
and smoke in order to refresh themselves.

There are exceptions of vegetarianism in TEN-DOU, which are milk of domestic animals
and eggs of birds. These exceptions were permitted YUMI-NAGA who should have to
spread the Way world-widely by RAUM when the Salvation in the White generation was
opened. And YUMI-NAGA SO permitted them us successively. There are both positive and
negative essences mixed in harmony without soul, so that any living symptom not yet is
revealed inside the shell of egg. That is the reason why people could eat eggs nothing
worry about. Hens lay  eggs quite safely, therefore we could get their eggs without killing
                  them.

When ON-SHI permitted us taking eggs showed His intention with a poem as shown
                  bellow.

gNeither brawn nor bone inside, no feather outside.

Both epositivef and enegativef become a package in chaos.

Now I am taking you to RI-TEN, so that you could be saved from death by killingh.

The essence of the vegetarianism in TEN-DOU is sincerely noble diet. The trainee would
never be going to devour naturally. Devoting oneself (SHOU-JIN) means not only to eat
vegetables but also to devote oneself to faithful belief in short. Confucius expressed his
decision to face the Way such as gA man of virtue thinks nothing of the food but the
Wayh. And he admired one of his pupils GAN-KAI such as gHow clever KAI is to live in a
narrow tumbledown house, eat a dish of rice and drink a cup of water in a day, and he
wonft change his mind to enjoy the Way in such a painful situation, which common
people could never endureh. Confucius himself said gIt is may pleasure to eat a few rice,
drink some water and sleep making my elbow a pillowh. And then he pursued for nothing
but the Way and stepped ahead of the exquisite belief so that he would be able to master
the neutral way devoutly and gently, purify the inner blood in order to recover the
constitution without enegativef and make the profound wisdom active. According to the
operation of the exquisite wisdom, a man could show a typical activity. Whoever so called
mountain hermit, wizard or other saints lived in ancient ages showed it with their words
                  and behaviors.

We should never miss the opportunity. However slow, high and low, or far and near it
might be, we have to make perpetual progress in the Way.
